Parenting Partnership –It’s Not Just a Commitment to a Child

Before considering a parenting partnership one really needs to know what they are getting in to. First and foremost, wanting a child is one thing, but being able to commit to that child for a lifetime is another. One must truly evaluate if they are ready to be a parent 365 days a year, for a lifetime. Take time to talk with friends and family to truly get a sense of what being a parent is like, and make sure you are ready for a complete life change. If there is any hesitation as to if the timing is right, it might be best to take more time to make the decision. That being said, once you are mentally ready to commit to a child, be prepared to commit to your parenting partner as well.

A parenting partnership is just that–a partnership. Once you have taken the time to search, get to know and select the perfect partner, you need to also make a commitment to them. This is the individual that you have chosen to raise a child with together. No matter what personal arrangements you have come to with your partner, this person will have some involvement in your life as well as the life of your child. And remember, this person chose you as well. So prepare yourself, not only to commit to a child but to your partner. Take the time to find the right match and take that first step in committing to them before moving on to the next step.
