I've been looking at this as an option for quite awhile. My mother goes back and forth on her acceptance of it and I come from a very traditional family and this would not be a normal conversation. I'm just wondering how other's expriences have gone or any approaches I should consider when announcing that this is something I'm chosing to do? Thanks!

I had a conversation about this with my parents - but they're pretty progressive so they were just happy about the idea of becoming grandparents! I think when you explain this as a better alternative than single parenting, they will get it.

As a gay man, my mother is delighted at the possibility I might become a father. Like mmaher80, my father is very traditional. I've not told him about it. But as and when I do, probably when after I have found a co-parent and she is pregnant, I'll let him know. He'll think the arrangement is a nonsense, I am sure. But I think he'll be accepting once there's a little boy or girl in his sights;-)
