MTV Introduces Generation Cryo

MTV Networks is at it again with their provocative original series. The network that hasn’t had the best TV ratings nationwide, is struggling to keep viewers glued to their original programming and with a younger demographic, keeping the attention of “tweens,” is proving to be difficult for the once mega network. In an effort to capture more of an audience, the network has just announced their plans to move forward with a new original series, Generation Cryo. The new unscripted series will follow a 17 year old girl who was conceived via a sperm donor. The teen is on the hunt for her half-siblings, who were also conceived in the same way, and their biological father.

Beyond the controversy that the show is bound to draw, which most likely excites the network, the show is opening up discussions about sperm donor anonymity. With the UK set to begin legal proceedings on the privacy of sperm donors and if in fact sperm donors will be able to donate anonymously, is the United States headed that way as well?

A description of the show follows:

Generation Cryo – Explores the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors and are redefining what it means to be a family. The series will document the journey of Breeanna, a 17-year-old only child, who recently logged onto the Donor Sibling Registry, a website dedicated to connecting sperm donor families, and learned that she has at least 15 half-siblings all fathered by a man none of them know. Now, Bree’s on a mission to meet all of her half-brothers and sisters and lead them on a nationwide search to find their biological father.
